Aerial Training and Development Conference 2019, in Zambia
KATS, represented by Fred Kiiza Businge, who is a Partner, participated in the Aerial Training and Development Conference in Livingstone, Zambia, from the 3rd – 5th March, 2019.
In attendance were delegates from: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Italy, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Portugal, South Africa, Senegal, Singapore, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, the United Kingdom, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The delegates were mainly lawyers, airline officials, aviation experts and consultants, bankers and aircraft lessors.
A wide range of topics were discussed at the two-day conference, including but not limited to:
- projected growth of African aviation, challenges and opportunities
- available types of product or aircraft equipment
- how airlines buy, lease or finance their equipment, key lease and loan covenants and defaults
- a selection of recent case law and legislative changes, from Africa and internationally, relating to aviation matters: carriage by air, regulatory, insurance, leasing, finance, competition, compliance, sale/purchase and manufacturer liability
- typical helicopter transactions
- the global aircraft trading scheme
- overview of the main conventions peculiar to aviation: Rome, Chicago, Geneva, Warsaw-Montreal and Cape Town Convention Protocol on Matters specific to Aircraft Equipment
After the deliberations, the delegates went to take in the majestic Victoria Falls.
