Penny, a Senior Associate at KATS has over 10 years’ experience in the legal arena.
She previously worked as an Associate at a firm in Nairobi, Kenya from January 2013 to May 2014. Penny joined KATS in July 2014 and is in the Intellectual Property, Family Law and Estates, Company Secretarial departments.
Penny’s IP work encompasses registration of trademarks, industrial designs, patents and utility models for both local and international clients, representing clients in matters of trademark and copyright infringement, advising on licensing of marks, copyrights, patents, IP due diligence.
She also handles legal issues related to data privacy, security and integrity for clients in different industries such as software, telecommunications, e-commerce.
Penny also assists clients in Family Law related matters including adoption, guardianship matters and obtaining Grants of Letters of Administration and Probate.

- Acted for a leading provider of private medical services in Uganda, International Medical Group (C-Care) to register approximately 30 trademarks for the company and all its’ subsidiaries in Uganda.
- Acted for Chemi and Cotex Industries Limited, a leading Oral care company in Tanzania with respect to defending a trademark opposition suit in Uganda.
- Undertook trademark registration and renewal of 20 trademarks for a large building material company in South Africa (Afrisam (South Africa) Pty Limited.
- Filed various trademarks registration applications for House of Eden Uganda Limited and maintains its trademark.
- Involved in conducting due diligence for multinational companies with regard to their Intellectual property and regulations.
- Provides legal advice to various clients on Intellectual Property related matters including undertaking the registration, renewals and assignments of different forms of Intellectual property in Uganda.
Advises clients in Family law and Estate matters with regards to adoption, divorce, legal guardianship and obtaining letters of administration and Probate.
- Provides Company Secretarial services ranging from incorporation of companies, providing technical assistance to companies on data updates of dormant companies, filing of company statutory forms and carrying out other functions required of a company secretary.
- Provides general corporate advisory to the Firm’s corporate clients advising on potential legal risks and rendering practical legal advice on regulatory compliance.
